5/18/2023 0 Comments Elexa guardianBut this is just another idea coming out of CES that can change your life in ways big and small. “You may be thinking, ”˜$400? Why would I ever spend that?’ Of course, you may get the savings on insurance… But dealing with a water leak is a massive pain in the rear end and the wallet. Easily installs The valve controller easily installs over your existing quarter-turn metal ball valve from 1/2' to 1' without any tools. If you purchase the product, immediately call your insurance company and they will “definitely” give you a discount on your policy, Beger said.Ĭlark’s takeaway: Clark says if the system will pay for itself over time, it’s a good deal. Guardian will open and close your valve weekly to keep it in good condition and ensure proper operation during emergencies. Price: $399 for the Guardian valve controller and three sensors. Where to find it: The product is available today on and Amazon, and is coming to home improvement retailers Home Depot, True Value and Ace Hardware soon. “You will get a notification via the cloud and even if your internet goes off, we’re still going to shut your water off.” This product, which comes with an app, will not only detect water leaks, but heating issues as well, according to Elexa CEO Larry Beger, who spoke to Clark radio show Executive Producer Kim Drobes. “If the temperature in your home gets to 40 degrees, the system will send you a notification and shut off your water so that your pipes don’t burst,” Beger said.įor additional protection, the system can be designed to work even if your internet is out or if your power goes off, he said. The Guardian: This DIY water leak prevention system could save you big bucks It consists of a valve controller that clamps on top of your pipe and leak sensors that are to be placed around your home’s common water lines, such as behind toilets and washing machines. The Guardian, which is from electrical component manufacturer Elexa, is a water leak prevention system that can be installed without a plumber and even without any tools. Elexa® Guardian Leak and Flood Prevention System Model Number: gvc3 Menards ® SKU: 6850000 +3 Final Price 355 11 each You Save 43.89 with Mail-In Rebate Install in minutes and never worry about water damage again. That’s the premise behind a new system that money expert Clark Howard and team discovered in Las Vegas this week at CES, the annual international consumer electronics show. But what if there was a do-it-yourself system that could be installed that would help you prevent water leaks from happening to begin with? You can spend a small fortune repairing water damage in your residence, not to mention labor and supply costs for a plumber. 5/18/2023 0 Comments Proponent for sentience lyricsAnd who could forget Obscura’s subtle stanzas about the formation of the solar system that sounded as if they were straight out of a Lord Byron poem? Metalheads clearly don’t aim so low anymore, and this meteoric rise of high-minded hoopla seems to correlate with the widespread emergence of the slick, mirror-shine production that has become characteristic of modern extreme metal. When young metal nerds got a hold of lyrics like,“hexagonal bolts to fill my mouth, sharpened to deplete the creator of all violence” back in 1998, it was only a hop, skip and a jump to Decapitated’s existentialist assertion that “the great fractal of existence sinks into itself,” and to Gojira’s plea for us to save the whales. As it is with djent, death metal’s petulant, illegitimate daughter, Meshuggah galvanized what is now a predominant trend. Ever since Carcass showed up from across the pond and started using fancy-pants, tongue-twisting, anatomically correct clinical jargon – in intellectual contrast with Cannibal Corpse songs like “Entrails Ripped From a Virgin’s Cunt” – the lyrics of the average death metal band have only grown more and more esoteric and thematically ambitious. Heavy metal lyricists seem to have lost interest in good ol’ fashioned murder too – apparently screaming bloody gore doesn’t cut it anymore. Aside from period pieces like Holy Grail and Mantic Ritual, the days of minotaurs and maidens are long gone, merely added to the list of fondly remembered metal clichés. Dragons? Vikings? The devil? Come on man, no one writes about that anymore. 5/18/2023 0 Comments Acton blink liteI personally like Pro mode as Beginner felt almost like there was a delay when I’d wanted to go forward, but you might feel differently. You can choose from Beginner, Normal, and Pro and the board’s throttle and brake will then respond sharper or slower to help you be able to react easier to it. Probably the biggest one of which is the ability to change the riding mode. You can also slide a switch on the side to change the direction of the remote (even though jumping off and turning the board is a bit quicker to do).Īcton also has an app for iOS and Android that allows you to control a few other aspects of the board and see more data. You can push forward on it to go forward and back to brake (which are some serious brakes and take a little mental prep before using). The board is controlled via a small, simple remote. Also, I had to tighten the trucks on my Blink S as it came with super loose ones which were great a slower speeds but really didn’t help once you got closer to the higher end of the board’s capabilities. There’s just so many people, cars, potholes, etc. Here in NYC, 15 miles an hour on a shortboard is kind of terrifying (although less so thanks to the bigger wheels compared to the Blink Lite). The Blink S can handle double the incline for hills (8.6 degrees), can hit a max speed of 15 miles per hour, go a distance of 10 miles on a single charge and pushing the throttle all the way forward definitely propels the board forward faster. This extra bump in wattage also gave it some extra grunt and stamina. The board also has the same side lights that the Blink Lite had but has also added a front headlamp and a red taillight.īoth boards have the same one wheel hub motor concept for power, but, instead of that motor being a 450W motor with an integrated battery in it, they’ve moved the battery under the board and bumped up the watts in the motor to 600. Where as the Blink Lite was slightly terrifying on NYC streets at speed–with you constantly fearing gravel or even large gaps in the sidewalk thanks to its tiny, “normal” skateboard wheels and short-board build–the Blink S has much larger and more solid feeling wheels and a much wider deck. And frankly, its in an entirely different category compared to the original Blink Lite. This is the Blink S, which is the new lower tiered model (besides the aforementioned Blink Lite). (This perk is no longer included but you can snag an extra charger for $50 if you wanted to have a similar charging setup.) Turns out I was sent the stretch goal version of their Indiegogo campaign which included one charger for work and one for the office to extend the 45 min ride time that you get per charge and a backpack. Moving on to the clearly skateboard-shaped box, I tore it open and pulled out the board, which we’ll get to in a sec, and found a remote, information packets that people like us just don’t read, and not one, but two chargers. 5/18/2023 0 Comments Hitchens blind liberasIn turn, his brave talk of sticking by his “comrades” in Baghdad rang false to me. We had both supported it, but as Iraq disintegrated, my criticisms of the policy struck him as weak-kneed and opportunistic, an effort to curry favor with bien-pensant liberals. It breathed new life into Hitchens, his persona, and his prose. (One of his lesser known books was called “Letters to a Young Contrarian.”) And nothing could be more contrarian, in the early years of the last decade, than for a hero of the left to embrace George W. He was, by his own lights and that of his admirers, a thoroughgoing contrarian. It propelled him straight through the last, most productive, most visible decade of his life. 9/11 gave Hitchens a sense of purpose like nothing since that early intimation, the Rushdie fatwa. It burned so hot that he turned it without a second thought at a secular, totalitarian Iraqi dictator. September 11, 2001, put Hitchens in touch with the molten anti-clericalism that was one of his elemental passions. From there, it was a fairly short and direct line to the late evening, a few years later, when I met Paul Wolfowitz at a party in Hitchens’s D.C. He was saying that he had been wrong, something that Hitchens didn’t do often enough-wrong not about anything in particular (he defended every specific political choice he’d made), but about the core question of whether America was a force for good or evil in the world. His monologue continued up until 9/11 and the singular insight that the attacks had given him: the American revolution was “the last one standing” and beat pretty much any conceivable alternative in the oppressed corners of the world. It didn’t change his position on the war, but it planted a seed. The thought of America on the side of a liberation movement occurred to Hitchens then, for the first time. He described driving through the refugee camps in Kurdistan at the end of that war, with peshmerga fighters who had a picture of George H.W. Hitchens took me on a long excursion through his political life, an account of the Education of Christopher Hitchens, with key stops at the fatwa on Salman Rushdie, which had pitted everything he loved against everything he hated, and the first Gulf War in 1991, which he had opposed. I hadn’t known Hitchens until then, and what I remember from that long afternoon of drinking (now a cliché of Hitchens eulogies, and one that doesn’t make me smile, since it helped kill him) was the sense of a man who was girding for battle. just months from going to war with Iraq, I went down to Washington to interview Hitchens for a piece on liberal intellectuals and the coming war. Two years later, after 9/11 and the overthrow of the Taliban, with the U.S. It’s a position from which much thunder can be visited upon the meek accommodations of ordinary political life, but it’s also a dead end of sorts. Wag the dog, not Islamofascism, was the cardinal sin, the scandal that got Hitchens to the keyboard.īy 2000, he had embraced Naderism, finding nothing significant to distinguish Bush from Gore, and explicitly refusing to accept the lesser evil. When Clinton ordered Cruise missile strikes against Afghanistan and Sudan after Al Qaeda bombed the United States embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, Hitchens wrote a series of columns dissecting the American retaliation: he concluded that Clinton had chosen to kill innocent people (primarily Sudanese) in order to distract attention from Monica Lewinsky. As late as 1998, Hitchens hated Bill Clinton much more than Osama bin Laden. If, as Hitchens once said, hatred was what got him up in the morning, the first three decades of his career were motivated more than anything by a contempt for American foreign policy and the hypocrites and evil characters who carried it out. I read almost every one of his “Minority Report” columns in The Nation from the mid-eighties until he gave them up after the 9/11 attacks, because they were reliably less predictable and more exciting than anything else in the magazine. Given the deadliness of much left-wing writing in the age of Reagan, Hitchens achieved the rare feat of being dazzling while sticking fairly closely to political orthodoxy. Until then, his work fit roughly within the conventions of the left. In the trajectory of his career as brilliant talker and polemicist, man of letters, self-dramatizing personality, and traveller to bad places, Iraq was the turning point. Christopher Hitchens and the Iraq War ended on the same day, December 15, 2011-a historical coincidence that only he might have known what to do with. 5/18/2023 0 Comments Korean fried chicken air fryerIn a large bowl, toss wings with cornstarch and squeeze to compress coating onto each wing. 5/17/2023 0 Comments The underground railroad storyMain character Cora gives us reason to hope things will keep getting better. Teens mature enough to handle this dark chapter in American history will have a lot to think about - how the pervasive institutionalization of slavery still echoes through current events and how we're still talking about many of the same issues but in slightly different forms. One dream includes consensual penetration. Sexual content between older teens or young adults who are equals is rare, with kissing mentioned a few times but not described. The "N" word and "pickaninny" are used frequently other profanity is infrequent but includes a few uses of "s-t" as a bodily function. Although gore and detail are rare (a man in stocks is repeatedly whipped, castrated, and burned alive there's a shooting at point-blank range), violence including whippings, rape, and psychological torment are mentioned frequently as part of enslaved people's everyday lives. It doesn't shy away from the cruelty and brutality of slavery in America. The Underground Railroad enriches our understanding of the history of Toronto.Parents need to know that Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad is compelling historical fiction with a few fantasy elements that stray from fact. Originally published in 2002, this new edition retains the appealing format of the original but has been thoroughly revised and updated with much new information including a chapter on the archaeology of Toronto’s African Canadian past. We learn how they escaped, the terrible choices they often made to leave spouses and children behind, the jobs they found, the businesses they built and the ways they contributed to their new home. The detailed social and political history is brought to life in dozens of remarkable profiles of the women, men and families who made that dangerous journey. Three distinguished scholars of Black history tell that powerful story in this concise, readable and well-illustrated book, in a way that is accessible for students and general readers of many ages. Based entirely on original research, The Underground Railroad offers fresh insights into the rich heritage of African Americans who became African Canadians and helped build Toronto as we know the city today.īefore and during the American Civil War, 30,000 to 40,000 freedom seekers from the United States escaped slavery and came to Canada. These brave individuals established organizations not only to help newcomers but also to oppose the ongoing slavery in the United States and to resist racism in their adopted city. Within its pages are stories of courageous men, women, and children who overcame barriers of prejudice and racism to create homes, institutions, and a rich and vibrant community life in Canada’s largest city. This new edition traces pathways taken by people, enslaved and free, who courageously made the trip north in search of liberty and offers new biographies, images, and information, some of which is augmented by a 2015 archaeological dig in downtown Toronto. “An engaging and highly readable account of the lives of Black people in Toronto in the 1800s.” - Lawrence Hill, bestselling author of The Illegal The Underground Railroad: Next Stop, Toronto! explores Toronto’s role as a destination for thousands of freedom seekers before the American Civil War. Stories of the hopeful, brave people who fled slavery and made Toronto their home. 5/17/2023 0 Comments Video smart player downloadSee Video Events logged using this test utility: Video Replay – Logged when the same video is played a second time.Video Complete – Logged when the video reaches the end.Video Third Quartile – Logged when the video reaches 3/4 of the duration.Video First Midpoint – Logged when the video reaches 1/2 of the duration.Video First Quartile – Logged when the video reaches 1/4 of the duration. But, the platform currently does not create this event in the Events panel, so it’s not recorded.
